The mansion from the movie Home Alone, one of the most recognizable houses in Christmas movie history, is up for sale, but internet users are not at all happy with the unusual renovations made to the interior of the house.

The house, located in Winnetka, Illinois (USA), is best known as the home of the fictional McCallister family in the 1990 film Home Alone, where the family’s holiday in France is turned into chaos when Kevin (played by Macaulay Culkin) is left behind.

Currently listed on the Redfin website, the mansion can be yours for a “mere” $5,250,000. However, internet users had tears in their eyes after seeing the renovations made to the interior of the iconic residence.

The renovation, completed in 2018, did away with colorful paintings, fun wallpaper patterns, and heavy furniture, common in 90s homes. The house now has a much more neutral color palette, with white walls complemented by decorations in black, gray, and navy blue.

On social media, the new interior of the memorable house left internet users furious. “See how they butchered my boy,” wrote a user from X (formerly known as Twitter) while sharing snaps from the house’s listing on Redfin.

“Oh my God, no, I loved that kitchen!” commented one internet user. “This should be illegal,” said another. “It’s worse than I imagined,” said a third. “I’ve seen dentist offices with more soul,” joked another.
